Working on this series of small-scale sculptures Robins reflected on the context for which this body of work emerged, the Creation Wine Estate. Unique characteristics of the terroir, the land and the environment, are central to the identity of the Creation wine farm and their product. Being mindful of the impact of farming and other human activity on the natural world, Creation Wine Estate aims to engage consciously and holistically with their environment. They sensitise their visitors to the beauty and fragility of nature while enjoying its generous gifts. In this series the artist is inspired by the humble grape stalks, the by-product of the wine-growing and winemaking process. The delicate, yet strong, stalks are cast in bronze and mounted on either local rock or on melted glass that was up-cycled from used wine bottles. Each stalk is unique in its design reminding us of the infinite resourcefulness and variety encoded in the natural world. The process and the materials used by the artist encourage the viewer to be mindful of their own consumption and take inspiration from nature where nothing is wasted.
